Because life is busy and the holidays can make life even more hectic, I want to share a super easy method to make DIY Holiday Wreath. Actually, this method can be used to make a wreath for any season or holiday. No messy glue and just a few supplies. Let’s get started.
Supplies needed
Here are the materials I recommend for making this wreath. The beauty is that you can modify based upon what you have on hand.
- 18-inch grapevine wreath
- Two 6-foot garlands. One evergreen garland and one red berry garland.
- Double Bow
- Craft wire
- Scissors
Assemble Wreath
There are two key design elements for this wreath. First, is the layering of two garlands. Second, is a trailing effect of the garland. Instead of a simple circular wreath, the garland trails at the bottom of the wreath. I love this effect and hope you will.
Here are the directions on how to assemble this DIY Holiday Wreath.
Step 1: Attach garland
Layer Garland Attach garland with wire
There are two approaches that can be taken. In one approach, each garland can be attached separately. In the second approach, both garlands can be attached simultaneously. I used this second approach. The benefit of this approach is that you can use one piece of wire to attach both garlands.
- Lay the evergreen garland on the wreath.
- Directly on top of the evergreen, lay the red berry garland.
- Secure both garlands to the wreath with an 8-inch piece of wire. Twist the wire at the back of the wreath to secure the two garlands. Precut 6-8 pieces of the wire to have ready as you work your way around the wreath.
- Continue around the wreath at intervals of about 6 inches until all the garland is secure. There should be an extra 12-18 inches of each garland that trail at the bottom of the wreath.
Step 2: Attach Bow
You can either make a bow or purchase a premade bow. Bows are easy to make yourself. I made my bow from two different spools of ribbon. I like this YouTube video that does a good job describing how to make a double bow. Secure the bow to the wreath with either a new piece of wire or the wire used to make the bow.
I’m crazy about the buffalo plaid design this year and thus incorporated that into the bow design. The second ribbon used is red burlap. Both ribbons have wire edges which help to hold the shape of the bow
Step 3: Hang Wreath
The last step is to hang your DIY Holiday Wreath and enjoy. Happy holidays!
